The Museum of the Coastal Bend showcases the rich multicultural heritage of the midcoast region of Texas. The museum is a member of the La Salle Odyssey Project, a cooperative venture of seven Gulf Coast museums. Each museum tells a segment of the story of French explorers in Texas, led by Rene-Robert Chevalier Sieur da La Salle. The centerpiece exhibit in the Museum of the Gulf Coast is seven of the eight cannon brought to Texas by La Salle. The eighth cannon is on display at the Texas State Museum in Austin.
